Hat
A fun way to personalize a party—and give it a unified look—is to make paper decor that showcases a favorite fabric. For my brother-in-law’s birthday, the theme came from his love of tie-dyed t-shirts (for party pics, click here), but you can use any fabric; just scan it and print onto sheets of paper you can turn into party hats, birthday crowns, vase wrappers, paper chains, and anything else you can dream up! What You’ll Need:
- Party Hat Template
- Tie-Dye Template
- White Paper
- Scissors
- Hot Glue Gun
- Pom Poms
- Elastic
Step 1 Download our Party Hat Template, print out, and cut.
Step 2 Print out as many Tie-Dye sheets as you want hats.
Step 3 Using the Party Hat Template as a guide, trace the shape onto the Tie-Dye patterned paper and cut out.
Step 4 Roll the party hat into a cone and secure with hot glue along the seam.
Step 5 Add a pom pom to the top of the hat with hot glue.
Step 6 Add a piece of elastic by gluing to each side of the inside of the hat.
Step 7 Repeat steps 3-7 to make as many hats as you want.
Crown
Another party spot that’s prime real estate for the Tie-Dye Pattern (or any fabric you’ve scanned and printed? This old-school crown for the birthday boy or girl!
What You’ll Need:
- Crown Template
- Tie-Dye Pattern Template
- White cardstock
- Scissors
- Doublestick Tape
Step 1 Download the Crown Template, print, and cut out.
Step 2 Print the Tie-Dye Pattern and use the crown as a guide to cut out tie-dye crown.
Step 3 Secure the ends of the paper with tape to form a crown.
Chain
Nothing says classic party decor like a good, old-fashioned paper chain. This one, in our unexpected tie-dye pattern, sets a groovy mood.
What You’ll Need:
- Tie-Dye Template
- White Paper
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Tape
Step 1 Download the Tie-Dye Pattern Template, and print it out so it’s double sided.
Step 2 Cut into 10.5” long by 1” wide sized rectangles.
Step 3 Secure loops with tape, adding one loop onto the next to build a chain.
Step 4 Repeat Steps 1-4 until chain reaches desired length.
