Who can resist a traditional holiday cookie that has a snowflake baked right into its design? Whether you make them or buy them, Italian pizzelles are holiday desserts that double as decor—making them ideal for celebrations from winter weddings to birthday parties.
To turn dessert into decor, trace the pizzelles snowflake pattern with white icing, sprinkle on edible sparkles.
For a snowflake-meets-snowball effect, use them to top coconut cupcakes by pressing them right into the frosted, coconut-dusted cupcake. Or, skip the coconut and get the snowy effect with sanding sugar instead. To dress up the cupcake for a party, bake them in golden cupcake cups, or slip a ready-made cupcake inside a metallic cupcake cup.
Turning iced pizzelle into cupcake toppers isn’t your only option for using versatile cookie at a winter party. You could also:
- Write initials on them with edible ink markers or piped royal icing and use them as placecards
- Dip them in hot chocolate
- Dust them with confectioner’s sugar for a snowy effect
- Use them to make ice cream sandwiches
- Press a few into a large cake as cake toppers
- When they’re hot of the pizzelle press, poke holes through the top and hang them from a tree, along with other edible ornaments
- Tie them onto presents as gift tags
- Set them out with ice cream and toppings as part of a pizzelle bar, and invite guests to design their own dessert
However you use them, they’re a delicious, decorative dessert for a holiday party or any other winter occasion, from weddings to birthday parties. Let it “snow”!
