Every relationship has a special date associated with it. Whether that’s your wedding anniversary, the night you had your first date, Valentine’s Day or the first time you said, “I love you,” you probably are already thinking of those numbers right now. They also work for birthdays, graduations, or any other special date–whether it’s a milestone, or just a good day. So, why not celebrate it? All you need is a newspaper (hint: The Financial Times is pink!) and a pair of scissors and you’re good to go.
Luckily, newspapers print the date on every page of every issue, so you only need one to fill your table with hearts or circles all showing that very special date. Sprinkle on a table as confetti; use as toppers in cupcakes, muffins, etc.; stick into a bouquet of flowers; slip into a card or envelope, or paste to the front of one. As an extra-special touch, save the front page every year, and as the years pass, you’ll be able to look back and see what the world was up to as you marked time together.
What you need:
- Newspaper
- Scissors
- Toothpick
- Tape
- Metallic crepe streamer (for cupcake wrap)
Step 1: Cut out the date from the top of your newspaper–as many as you would like, in whatever shape you’d like. Of course hearts are shown here!
Step 2: Tape to toothpicks and stick into cupcakes
Step 3: If making a cupcake wrap, accordion-fold a length of crepe paper (metallic crepe is sturdier than regular) until it’s long enough to wrap around the base of your cupcake. Tape shut to secure!
