Crab apples and caramel in a DIY snack kit. This caramel apple snack kit was made with my friend, caterer Peter Callahan (author of the creative cookbook PARTY FOOD)
What You’ll Need:
- Apple Print and Caramel Apple Recipe Tag Template
- Box or bag to pack it all in
- Crab apples
- Jar of caramel sauce (recipe below)
- Jar of topping (coconut used here)
- Twigs or sticks
- Box filling (shred shown here)
- String
- Glue or double sided tape
- Hole punch
HOW TO:
Step 1 Make caramel sauce
Step 2 Package sauce and toppings in jars
Step 3 Arrange in box or bag and fill with shred, tissue paper or other decorative filling
Step 4 Print and cut out Apple Print Template if using box and tape or glue to box lid
Step 5 Print and cut out Recipe Tag Template and cut out.
Step 6 Punch hole in Recipe Tag where marked and tie around box or bag
What You’ll Need for Caramel Sauce:
- 2 cups light brown sugar
- 1 3/4 cup heavy cream
- 3/4 cup dark corn syrup
- 1 1/2 TB Butter
- 1 1/2 Tsp Salt
HOW TO:
Step 1 Combine all ingredients together in a saucepan
STEP 2 Cook on medium heat, stirring occasionally until mixture reaches 250 degrees Fahrenheit
Step 3 Remove from heat and shock bottom of pan in cold water to stop cooking
Step 4 When mixture is cool, dip apples right away or fill in mini jars for to-go packs
TO REHEAT IN JARS: Bring pot of water to boil. Put jar in water and remove from heat. Let sit for 8-10 minutes until soft
