Everyone loves a sugar cookie! They’re tasty treats, great gifts, and decorating them is a fun indoor activity for a party—just set out cookies, frosting tubes and toppings and invite guests to get creative!
Cookie-decorating is a hit with all ages, and when you’re done, you can use the finished product as:
-Cookie Exchange Contribution: A fun addition to a holiday exchange
-Place Cards: bake letter shaped cookies like we did here, or write initials onto round ones with frosting or a cookie pen
-Favors: Bag individual cookies as takeaways
-Gifts: Package several as a sweet present
-Decor At a party or birthday breakfast, make letter-shaped cookies to write “HBD,” “Sweet 16,” the honoree’s initials or “I LOVE YOU”
There are so many sweet ways to use them, each time you make a bunch you’ll feel like a smart cookie.
A Sugar Cookie bar is another great way to bring everyone together on a snowy afternoon! Start with baked and cooled cookies and set out icing, sprinkles, and edible glitter in your chosen color palette so that everyone can customize their own cookies.

My daughters’ names were a big hit, but you could also write anything from HBD at a birthday party to season’s greetings at a holiday party to love notes on Valentine’s Day!
At the end of a cookie-making party—or any event at all—a decorated, bagged cookie makes a supersweet favor. These are secured with a folded card covered in my cookie-themed artwork. For cookie favor template, click here.
It’s a place-card, a favor, and a snack all in one (whether you bite into yours right away during pre-dinner toasts or save it for dessert). Initial cookies make great place cards; these are topped with gold sprinkles to match the table decor.
